The engine was running with no oil pressure when I got it. Fixed that with a new oil pump and both pump drive shaft pieces. Engine is noisy and smokes a little. I've had the oil pan off twice, and even used plastigauge to check bearing clearances. Everything in the bottom end is great. Valves are adjusted right, lots of oil pressure now, but it still has something knocking in there. I have not been able to trust it to do any real work. Don't want to see parts come out the side. Decided the only way I was going to figure this out is to get it on a stand, pull it apart, and check everything. I suspect a broken piston skirt, or maybe a bad wrist pin. Since the crank and bearings are in good shape, it should be relatively inexpensive to fix.
