What Dean said. I have plowed with THE 1951 8N since 1953, when it was only 2 years old. The draft was worn then. My right thumb has a permanent "dent" from so many hours using Position control.
We learned to watch the plow, watch forward momentom and listen to engine RPMs. Level ground in a field that was worked each year was easy to plow. A fallow field was tougher. A good plow, not worn out, is important.
I've attached a youtube video of an 8N being used to plow. Watch the operators right hand and what happens to the tractor. It will come to a stop with the wheels spinning until he manually raises (position control) the plow a bit. A properly working draft should not have let that happen. ps That is not me in the video.
