Its been 6 years since Ive had a top cover off an 8N.I doubt you could turn the pin with the cover on.The cam would have equal wear so a new pin would not fix all the problem.I worked in a metal shop 60 years ago.Dies used in stamping small metal parts had locating pins that had 2 diameters on them.The small end was pressed into the die face.A pin like that could make up for the wear on the cam.There was a lot of rust and condensation in the pin and cam area.Those parts should have been down in the oil.One of Fords dimmer ideas.The cam shaft has frozen up on my 640.It took some time with a hair dryer or heat gun to free the shaft.I would add a grease fitting to the shaft if I took the top cover off.
