Have you check to see if the tractor has a ballast resistor and that its wired right.500,000 N tractors came from the factory in 6 volts.Your tractor should run fine on 6 volts.Autos and trucks went 6 volts in the mid fifties because of larger engines that needed more cranking power.increased lighting, air conditioning, radios and larger heaters.Ford didnt offer sealed beam headlights until 1939 and heaters until 1940.Most engines were under 240 cubic inches. The big Olds and Caddy V8s had a long hi amp 6v battery.Buick straight 8s used the long battery. My 640 has a tail light, work lite and a pair of head lights. You should measure the Voltage at the coil top terminal with the points closed. You should have the original Ford Ballast resistor on the tractor.
