Third gear especially wears the detent so they pop out of gear.
I think? the detent is nla so must be found used. It requires a double split and significant disassembly of the transmission to repair.
A friend of mine needed that repair and I helped him with the double split then he brought just the transmission into a local ma&pa repair shop who specializes in older Fords. I didn't follow it after that except to help reinstall the transmission afterwards. It worked good after we were done and my friend did not complain about the price which he would have done if it had been expensive.
He's one of those you see the moths fly out when he opens his wallet.
