Good point about the thermostat.
I would also open up the radiator cap and start tractor when cold. Look in the radiator for excessive bubbles which could mean a leaky head gasket.
Also, As I would with any new to me tractor, I would keep checking the oil for any moisture, and check the coolant for any oil. When you drained the old coolant do you remember seeing any oil residue??
I love my little point and shoot temperature gauge I can check the temperature of anything without touching it.
