Windy Ridge sounds like the story of my grandparents farm here in central Wisconsin. However, unlike West Virginia's mountains, central Wisconsin was a vast glacial lake after the glaciers melted some + or - 13,000 years ago. Were it still there the lake would be larger than 2 of the Great Lakes. Grandpa and Grandma's farm was located astraddle the terminal moraine of the Wisconsin Lobe Glacier on the edge of the lake. Though it was listed as 120 acres, had it been pressed flat it might have been 140. That old glacier had pushed rocks and boulders from as far northeast as Quebec so the farm was quite stony with some the size of small cars or large animals. My uncle Mike used to say that the land was so poor you couldn't have raised hell with a barrel of whiskey and six Irishmen! That was the farm where I spent happy summers from 1947 to 1951 and where I had the pleasure of driving a brand new 1950 8N Ford home from the dealer, about a 5 mile ride. It had the hi-lo transmission and I believe would do about 25 miles an hour.
