Originally painted on the line as part of the entire chassis assembly. Carbs were always on the engine as all engines were test run prior to meeting the chassis. Therefore the carbs with all rods, needles, springs and screws got painted chassis color, the intake was crudely taped as was the fuel inlet hence the intakes should show a paint line. There were over 450 versions of the M/S TSX carb built, Deere and Farmall were large users of the TSX so you may find them in most any color. Farmers often installed rebuilts as the price back then was in the $25 range. That was less expensive than a service call. Rebuilts (including gennys and starters) were usually painted black and sometimes no paint at all.
