The gauge line is a dead end, so any moisture that gets in there, stays in there. The original problem, no reading when cold seems like ice blocking the line. Once moisture gets in there, corrosion and deposits become a problem. These gauges are not very good to begin with, add corrosion and blockage, and they quickly become useless. As others have written, blow out the line, replace the gauge with a decent quality replacement, and at least the pressure readings from the gauge will be more trustworthy.
