Capacity is more than 8 quarts (5-speed) for the entire system -you are only reading the transmission spec. The hydraulic system uses 9 quarts so total is around 4 gallons -about what you say you drained out. I'd only refill with new, clean oil about 3 gallons at first, run it good and hot, then shut down and let settle for a half a day then recheck level and add more if needed. The oil spec is any GL1 grade so no need for anything fancy. CNH Hydraulic Oil runs $60-$70 a five gallon bucket nowadays, and many of us use the cheaper TSC brand and usually have no qualms...
