If you are talking about the rear end case where the 8N-486 long pin attaches your yoke tree, the 9N/2N and 8N are different. So, I think I understand your term 'tabs'. Note in picture Dels' 9N rear diffy case where the rocker tree attaches. Then note the rear diffy case on the early 8N and the 'tabs' or 'ears' outside ends that secure the 8N-486 Long Pin thru the rocker tree from good friend and NTC admin Farmer Dan when he had to replace his 1940 9N rear end several years ago and used one from an 8N. So, I suppose one could switch out rear ends like he did in order to use the 19-29 Rear Loader on an 9N. I think this is what you were going for...
