Thanks to everyone. It has been changed to 12 volt and has worked 100% since the change which was about five years ago. When the started button is pushed it does not turn over as quickly and start as easily. There is a grinding noise. It will still start. I have never had to crank it for any length of time as it always started on the first turn. I did have sparks coming off of the solenoid when starter was engaged but that has quit since I cleaned and tightened all of the terminals. Tractor is covered when outside and from Oct. to April is garaged.
