Dan, I've done that same job many times, but down here with so much black gumbo soil, I've had to use a 6' length of 8" channel iron; (I welded an old axle U bolt to each side to attach the pull chain). If that channel still didn't get the job done, I'd use my trusty old Gannon box blade!
