What happened to the old air cleaner cover and screen? Any part with an '8N' prefix wouldn't be for a 9N/2N, usually, and the air cleaner is one. S/N doesn't mean much anymore as engine may have been swapped out. The s/n was hand stamped on the engine AFTER it was assembled and passed QC Inspection/Testing. S/N's were meant to also ID the entire vehicle, car, truck, tractor, buggy, but as stated, swapping out didn't mean the rest of the tractor was correct for that unit - you often see an 8N engine block in a 9N and vice-versa so - a s/n basically moot point. I covered your questions about p/n nomenclature on the N-BOARD. I used the air cleaner as an example before I even saw this post. You Nobody makes new air cleaner screens and cap parts for the 9N so you need to find a used one like on fleabay. There are often a few sellers that part out tractors and you can get one there -look for 'marty' in Bad Axe, MI for one. Get out your MPC's and see if your tractor has one of the ones shown in the JAN 46 MPC.
