  • antifreeze leak
  • I have a 1950 8n. The engine was completely rebuilt about 8 years ago. It generally only sees service in the winter months for plowing snow. I brought it up from my garage that is like a cave. It's a very cool environment.
I brought it upstairs to the main floor of the garage to do some work on the seat mount and into a +95 degree temperature range. I have not run the engine since bringing it upstairs. After a couple of days I noticed a slight coolant leak on the floor originating from the clutch housing area behind the engine. I placed a piece of carboard over the floor area. The coolant level was slightly low so I refilled the radiator. So far no further leakage.
Are there frost plugs on the back side of the engine ? I was told all the plugs were replaced on the rebuild or do you think it's the quick temperature change allowed the plugs or something else to weep temporally. Thanks in advance

  • It might be weeping at the rear of the cylinder head. Torque the head bolts again and see if that helps.

  • Turns out after having a chance to really look at the fluid it's tranny oil. I guess the front seal is leaking. I don't think it's that unusual to expect a little incontinence when your 74 years old. I'll deal with it when it's time to change the clutch. Thanks for the input.
