  • Gap requirement between piston and liner
  • Hi, can anybody tell me the size of the gap I need between engine liners and pistons on 4 cylinder diesel tractor (think 1968-1970) thank you 😀

  • Re: Gap requirement between piston and liner
  • I almost wonder if this is a serious question.
Is this engine in a 5000?
Is it 233 cubic inch or 256 cubic inch displacement? They switched to the larger displacement in 1968.
    If it is a 233 - 4.2" bore the clearance should be .0075 -.0086
    If it is a 256 - 4.4 bore the clearance should be .0080 - .0090
I suppose .0080 would work across the board.
But this info is extrapolated from a 3 cylinder Ford which used the same bores and strokes as the 4 cylinders did so don't take my reply as gospel. I would get myself a manual instead.
