  • 1953 Ford NAA Golden Jubilee only runs wide open
  • My 1953 NAA was having some sputtering issues and the gentleman I bought it from gave me a new carburetor with it. I swapped it out and now upon start up it immediately runs wide open like it’s going to the moon. I took the new one off and put the old one back, same problem will only run wide open and won’t idle. I swapped parts between the old and new one, same issue. I adjusted and adjusted, same issue. The throttle linkage moves as it should but the throttle lever does not change anything. No matter what I do it will only run wide open immediately when it starts. HELP!

  • Me? I would disconnect the throttle linkage at the carb and start it again.
Then inspect the linkage to see if it went into a full throttle position due to a broken governor or if it was just put together wrong.
Shut off the tractor and repair as needed.
If the tractor still goes full throttle with the linkage disconnected, stuck throttle butterfly, or missing?
Then again, others with far more knowledge and experience should be along shortly.

  • Points need adjusted or replaced. Runs wide open because of the timing is changed at full throttle.
